Chaque anesthésiste a ses propres astuces pour te calmer avant de te mettre sous anesthésie générale. Certains te demanderont quelle musique tu souhaites qu'ils jouent pendant la chirurgie, d'autres te demanderont: « Si tu pouvais être n'importe où dans le monde en ce moment, où serais-tu?» . Eh bien, voici l'endroit que mon esprit a imaginé juste avant que je ne sois plongée sous anesthésie pour mon énième opération. C'était la plage de Lakeside, à l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard, avec ses couchers de soleil spectaculaires. L'intensité de cette vision était stupéfiante, et l'espace d'une seconde, j'étais là, sur cette plage, avant de sombrer dans le néant de la sédation totale.

Different anesthesiologists have different tricks to calm you before putting you under general anesthesia. Some will ask you what music you want them to play during the procedure, and others ask “if you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would that be”. Well this is the place my mind conjured right before going under for my umpteenth surgery. It was the beach at Lakeside PEI with its wild sunsets. The intensity of the vision was astonishing, and for a second I was there on that beach, before disappearing into the telltale nothingness of utter sedation.
