About
Hannaleah Ledwell (she/her) is an emerging artist born and based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. Anchored in moments of vulnerability and tenderness, her practice draws on perpetual self-observation, shaped by her experience of living with multiple invisible chronic illnesses. This intimate relationship with the body fuels her research and leads her to retrace, through visual and muscular memory, moments of care and renewal.
She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University and has exhibited in several Montreal galleries. In 2023, she was awarded a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. Her work has been presented in Parle-moi d’amour (Les Impatients) and in Optimista: Ciné-Conferences for Better Tomorrows, alongside artists such as Innu poet Joséphine Bacon.
______________
Ledwell’s work brings attention to invisible illness, vulnerability, and relationships of care, exploring both their intimate and collective dimensions. Her practice weaves together visual art and storytelling to question how the body, memory, and affect convey experiences of illness and healing. Inspired by her own condition as well as the stories of others, she seeks to create images that reveal the sensory and emotional depth of these often-marginalized lived realities.
