La pièce est pleine de livres, allant de la poésie à la bande dessinée, empilés les uns sur les autres, avec un service à thé posé en équilibre au sommet. Un chien lève les yeux vers le sujet, qui se trouve juste hors du cadre. Le sujet représenté ici est une personne qui fait l’endométriose et du syndrome d’Ehlers-Danlos, des pathologies où la douleur et la fatigue sont monnaie courante. Bien qu’elle possède plus de flacons dans sa pharmacie qu’elle ne peut en tenir dans une main, pour elle, les objets présentés ici représentent un réconfort et un bien-être plus tangibles que n’importe quel cocktail de médicaments. À l’arrière-plan, deux objets appartenant à des membres de sa famille – un kimono et un tableau représentant Venise – relient le sujet aux générations précédentes. Alors que ces objets ancrent la scène, le tissu à motif de papillon attire le regard vers le haut, vers un univers intérieur invisible.

The room is full of books, from poetry to comics, stacked in piles with a tea set balanced on top. A dog looks upward towards the owner, who is just out of frame. The subject here is a person with endometriosis and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, where pain and fatigue are commonplace. While they have more pill bottles than can fit in one hand, for them, the items here represent a comfort and wellbeing that is more tangible than any cocktail of medications. In the background, two pieces from family members, a kimono and painting of Venice, link the subject to their previous generations. While the objects are grounded, the monarch fabric draws the eye upwards, to an unseen interior universe.
